The Colosseum – PVP

A single figure stands statue still in the middle of a ruined arena. As you step through the threshold, his arm whips up, holding a sword, challenging you to combat. The gate behind you crashes closed- It is time to do battle!

Recommended Models

  • 1x Strategos (not mounted)
  • 1x Centaur Kerykes
  • 4x Varangian Guard
  • 4x Athanatoi
  • 4x Athanatoi

Setup

Unlike a typical First Blood board, this scenario is played on a 48″ diameter circle.

In the center of the board (in the spot marked G), place the Strategos model.

Place four column terrain objects at the beige circles, 12 inches away from the Strategos model. These columns are impassable and block line of sight. Add more scatter terrain to the field; low walls, rubble, objects that provide some amount of cover and break movement.

Each warband must deploy their entire force in their respective zone, regardless of whether a unit has flank or not. These zones are a circle 9 inches from the top and bottom points of the battlefield.

Note the four purple regions in the figure above. These regions are approximately 4.5″ by 6″, and are also located approximately 12″ from the Strategos. I say “approximately” because it’s unlikely you have markers that are exactly this size, and that’s fine, just get as close as you can.

When any figure moves within 3″ of these regions, a trapdoor springs open, and one of four regiments appears. Roll a D6, and consult this table:

  • 4-6: 4x Athanatoi
  • 2-3: 4x Varangian Guard
  • 1: Centaur Kerykes

If you’ve already deployed the model you rolled, feel free to reroll on the table.

Gameplay

The Strategos should begin by moving toward one of the four purple regions. When he activates the trapdoor, don’t roll on the above table. Instead place 4x Athanatoi near him as an honor guard.

The Strategos drops a treasure token when defeated. The warband that successfully returns the token to within 3 inches of the center of their deployment zone counts as having successfully claimed the treasure.

Play continues for 10 rounds. After round 5, any unopened trapdoors automatically open as though a model had moved within their vicinity.
